The Department

Aula universitaria

The Department of Medicine, Surgery and Pharmacy is committed to promoting and developing high-level experimental and clinical research with strong national and international impact. Its core activities include university-level education, continuous collaboration with the National Health Service, and enhancement of the local area through third-mission initiatives and technology transfer.

Its educational offering spans three-year bachelor’s, master’s and single-cycle degree programmes, including Medicine and Surgery, Pharmacy, Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Technology, Dentistry, Nursing Sciences, Physiotherapy, Midwifery, Speech Therapy, Radiologic Technology and Biomedical Laboratory Techniques. Teaching is coordinated by the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery liaison structure, which manages relationships with healthcare facilities for internships and practical training.

Post-graduate education features a wide range of Specialisation Schools and PhD programmes. The Specialisation Schools—active in medical, surgical, clinical-service and public-health areas—benefit from the full involvement of the department’s faculty, use dedicated teaching and research laboratories, and operate under Italian Ministerial Decree 68/2015.

Doctoral programmes, promoted and coordinated by the University’s Doctoral School, provide training and advanced research opportunities in medical and pharmacological fields, with organisational and administrative support from the department itself.

Research activities are interdisciplinary, extending from basic biology to clinical practice, and are supported by facilities such as simulation and telemedicine laboratories, quality-assurance mechanisms and dedicated innovation centres. Modernisation projects have been undertaken—along with investments to increase places on the Medicine degree course—to strengthen training capacity in response to the national demand for medical personnel.
